Mixed Media Mosaics – Make Your Own Mosaic Tile

I’m so excited to have Amy Marks back teaching at the studio! She is an expert in creating polymer clay tiles.

Fee: $240, and $35 supply fee given directly to Amy on the first day of class.

In this hands-on workshop, learn how to create your own mosaic tiles (tesserae) with polymer clay (Sculpey or Primo) using a variety of techniques including stamping, painting, and gold leafing. Discover techniques for embellishing clay and glass tiles with mica powder, paint and other colorants. You’ll have the opportunity to make an image transfer and mosaic with beads.  Then, you’ll combine all three mixed media materials—glass, clay and beads—into an abstract mosaic that is not grouted. This class is open to students at all levels.

Amy has been creating mosaics for over 12 years. She uses a rich color palette and a variety of materials —polymer clay and glass tiles, stained glass, pottery, millefiori, beads, and jewelry—to create functional and decorative mixed media mosaics that are colorful and highly tactile. Her mosaics have been juried into virtual exhibitions sponsored by the New England Mosaic Society as well as in-person exhibitions at Lasell University, The Somerville Museum, the Danforth Museum of Art, and The Cape Cod Cultural Center. Amy teaches mosaic workshops at mosaic studios and art centers including the Fuller Craft Museum and Snow Farm. She served as the founding President of the New England Mosaic Society (NEMS).
